142 Nationals Are Now Repatriated From Fiji
(Bairiki, Tarawa Tuesday, 23rd November 2021)-----The Government of Kiribati has repatriated 141 I-Kiribati seafarers and one national who have been stranded in Fiji due to COVID-19 travel restriction and border closure, on a chartered Reef Endeavor vessel owned by Captain Cook Cruise Line in Fiji.
The vessel departed Nadi, Fiji on Monday evening (22nd November 2021) and the trip will take six days from Fiji to Kiribati.
Prior to their departures, the passengers have gone through strict travel procedures. They have been tested three times negative and are all safe and free from the COVID-19 virus.
These nationals are accompanied by two medical officers from the Zens Medical Center who will assist the Reef Endeavor’s medical team in monitoring and carrying out medical check-ups and tests during the trip.
Upon arrival at the Betio port, passengers of the vessel will remain in quarantine on the vessel for fourteen days at a safe harbour under surveillance by the Police and the Ministry of Health and Medical Services as required under the Government’s COVID-19 standard operating procedures. Once cleared from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, these seafarers will be able to go ashore and meet with their families.
